"There’s a young woman out of south Louisiana who has got some serious chops, a peroxide, leggy crooner with the a soul like Lucinda Williams, the confidence of Grace Slick and the voice of a decades-ago Bonnie Raitt..... It was Kristin Diable. Devil in a white dress. Biggest thing out of Baton Rouge since rush hour." - JAZZFEST review from Pulitzer Prize winning columnist, Chris Rose. Full article HERE.

May 23, 2010

The past month has been a dream....our debut at New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, French Quarter Festival, opening shows with Johnny Rivers & Gurf Morlix in Baton Rouge, and now I'm sitting pretty here in Nashville, playing my first real show in music city tomorrow, May 24th at 3rd and Lindsley (6pm, No cover).

Had a wonderful band with me at JazzFest including Brady Blade (Emmylou Harris, Dave Matthews, Solomon Burke), Trevor Brooks, Casey McAllister (Happy Talk, Myrtles), Steve Calandra (Happy Talk, Morning 40 Federation) & Erin Miley.  Pulitzer prize winning New Orleans columnist Chris Rose proclaimed it "the biggest thing out of Baton Rouge since rush hour." Check out the full review HERE.

I'll be back to Baton Rouge, band in tow, JUNE 3rd at THE VARSITY Theatre.  Sure hope you can join us for that one as well.

About to start demoing songs for the next record as well.  Going to be teaming up with kickstarter.com to let our fans take a part in funding the process, and receiving all sorts of exclusives, VIP goodies, producer credit and more.  Will post that in the upcoming week.

More soon.  Love, kd

When Kristin Diable says she plays "roots music," she is as much describing an approach as a genre.

Not long after successfully establishing herself in her hometown music scene, Baton Rouge, Louisiana native Kristin Diable dropped her life in the swamps to test out fresher waters in New York City. After selling most of her possessions to put down deposit on a 150 square foot rooming house apartment in Manhattan's East Village, she began making the rounds in the bustling Lower East Side music scene.

After a chance introduction, George Stein (best known for guiding the career of musician Jeff Buckley) signed on to represent and later manage the developing artist. As she steadily began building a buzz, working her way up to more prestigious downtown haunts such as The Living Room, The Knitting Factory, and Mercury Lounge, she produced and self-release the full length "Shelter" record. The record provides a glimpse into the diversity and depth of this 23 year old songwriter, who cites influences as broad as Neil Young to Nina Simone, and Ray Charles to Lucinda Williams.

Judging by her regular standing room only shows at NYC's The Living Room, Diable's knack for poignant songwriting is one of her strongest talents, even when accompanied by only her guitar. Stein picked up on these developing talents early on and adds "very rarely do you meet someone so young with so much musical integrity. She has a voice that flows like a slow Southern river, with molasses and whiskey in the current."

Diable recently composed, performed and produced the music for Jeep Grand Cherokee's mutinational  "We Build" campaign and her music has been featured on television shows such as One Tree Hill.

Recently returned to her native Louisiana, settling in New Orleans where she is rapidly building a name for herself in the burgeoning Crescent City singer/songwriter scene. Her live performances now include a rotating cast of some of New Orleans' most talented musicians including Casey McAllister (Happy Talk Band, Bingo! Show), Charles Lumar (Andrew Duhon), Joey Peebles (Trombone Shorty), & Eric Heigl (Ellipses, Andrew Duhon, Ernie Vincent).

2010 has included performances at Sundance Film Fest, French Quarter Festival, and New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Fest, with many more to come.
